Herbal wine for ailing Pharaohs
February 7th, 2012
In ancient days a tradition which was followed by the great-grandmas was taking a nip of the elderberry wine which was mainly for medicinal purposes. Research says that as early as 5000 years ago the Egyptians spiked the wine with some medicinal herbs. Even a chemical analysis of pottery which dates back to 3150 BC also show that herbs and resins were incorporated to grape wine and this tradition was done to prevent one from diseases which were prevailing in ancient times. The main herbs which were added include savory, blue tansy and Artemisia and they have also found that balm, senna, coriander etc., were also added.
